Billy Preston's "Space Race" Single

Vocalist, keyboardist Billy Preston from Houston, TX, had a number one record on this date. He moved to Los Angeles at an early age. He played and toured with Mahalia Jackson in 1956 and played piano in the movie “St. Louis Blues” in 1958. He was a regular on the Shindig TV show. Billy also recorded with the Beatles on the album “Let It Be”. He also played on a lot of Sly and the Family Stone hits and toured with the Rolling Stones in 1975. Some of his best known hits were “Outta Space” his first number one song, “Will It Go Round In Circles” and “Nothing from Nothing”. On this day “Space Race” topped the charts.
