After three months of their new holy matrimony, Anika Noni Rose and Jason Dirden have invited the public into their lives. The two shared their wedding ceremony with Brides Magazine’s first cover of the year, The Music Issue.
Rose and Dirden married last October, according to Brides. They met in 2014 while working on the Broadway production of A Raisin in the Sun. “We were friends for a couple of years, actually,” the Princess and the Frog actress told Brides. “We both went off and did our own things and were disconnected for a while and then swung back.” The happy couple began their engagement in December 2021.
The pair kept their relationship quiet for years, never announcing that they were dating, engaged, or married, until now.
The Wedding Details
Their wedding was held at the Paramour Estate in Los Angeles. “The space was so gorgeous and natural that we didn’t want to overwhelm it with flowers. We just wanted them to enhance what nature had given us,” Rose said about the venue.
According to Brides, it took eight weeks to plan. They “didn’t plan to only have eight weeks to plan a wedding,” Dirden explained. “We planned to have a year,” but their schedules ended up pushing the marriage date up.
Euphoria’s Colman Domingo officiated their secret fall wedding. “Colman Domingo, our officiant, started doing the electric slide, which is something that I never thought was going to be at my wedding, but it was so much fun!” Rose recalled. “Everybody knows a line dance, so all ages danced to that—there was an intergenerational joy and connection that was so fun to see.”
Rose’s wedding dress was also a large part of the ceremony. The actress wore a custom Alonuko Bridal gown designed by Gbemi Okunlola. The bridal party also had bouquets tied with the sleeves of the wedding dress once worn by Rose’s mother.
