Malcolm-Jamal Warner, known for his diverse career, is set to unveil his more intimate side through a new podcast venture.
Warner, alongside cohosts Weusi Baraka and Candace Kelley, will debut “Not All Hood” on June 10. The podcast aims to delve into the multifaceted experiences within the Black community, touching on themes like Black love and media representation.
“We wanted to have a space where we can really explore, discuss, and acknowledge all of those different aspects,” Warner tells PEOPLE.
The actor, recognized for roles spanning “The Cosby Show” to “Suits,” sees this podcast as a platform to reveal his most vulnerable self. “It’s a place where I feel safe enough to be able to be as vulnerable as I allow myself to be,” he expresses.

One significant topic the podcast will tackle is mental health within the Black community, a historically taboo subject.
“Talking to therapists and psychologists has been such a no-no for such a long time,” Warner notes, highlighting the systemic challenges faced by Black individuals.
Another subject of discussion is the evolution of cultural practices, such as twerking, and its portrayal in Western society.
“When you look at that dance from an African cultural perspective, it doesn’t land the same,” Warner explains. He emphasizes the importance of understanding the cultural roots and avoiding the sexualization of such practices.
Warner aims to counteract prevalent Black stereotypes through the podcast. He stresses the importance of showcasing the diverse range of Black experiences often overshadowed by mainstream media narratives.
“We want to make sure that we can balance that out with the many other aspects of Black culture out there,” Warner emphasizes.
“Not All Hood” promises to be a thought-provoking and enlightening journey, shedding light on underrepresented aspects of Black culture.
The podcast will be available for streaming on Apple Podcasts and Spotify starting Monday, June 10.
