Peacock announced the return of Bel-Air for a third season in March 2023. Fast-forward to today, the streaming service revealed that the new season will premiere on August 15, 2024.
New Beginnings and Personal Challenges
In season three of the Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air reimagining, school’s out and Will (Jabari Banks) is doing things his way. Being part of the Banks family has given him a new perspective on life. With the luxury of dreaming big, Will is ready to tackle exciting new challenges. Carlton (Olly Sholotan) begins his journey to leave his life of addiction behind. He aims to rebuild his damaged reputation by partnering with Will. Together, they achieve many wins but also uncover differences in their backgrounds and worldviews.
Aunt Viv (Cassandra Freeman) and Uncle Phil (Adrian Holmes) face challenges both at work and home. Hilary (Coco Jones) and her new romance with LaMarcus (Justin Cornwell) encounter surprising obstacles. Meanwhile, Ashley (Akira Akbar) starts to explore romance ahead of her freshman year of high school. Geoffrey’s (Jimmy Akingbola) London past also comes too close to his new life.
Themes and New Faces
Bel-Air’s showrunner, Carla Banks Waddles, teased that the new season will explore several deep questions. She stated, “How do you prove yourself in a world that views you in limited ways? How do you reach beyond your comfort zone to create new opportunities for yourself? How does a family rebuild broken trust?” Season three will also delve into “the gentrification happening in South LA.”
Earlier this year, Deadline confirmed that Vic Mensa and Alycia Pascual-Peña joined the cast. Mensa will play Quentin, and Pascual-Peña will play Amira. In addition to the main cast and Cornwell, Karrueche will reprise her role as Ivy, and Joivan Wade will return as Frederick.
Bel-Air’s third season promises to bring new challenges, exciting pivots, and deep explorations of personal and societal issues. Fans can look forward to an engaging and thought-provoking season starting August 15, 2024.
