Mike Tyson suffered a health scare while traveling on a flight to Los Angeles on Sunday evening, May 26. The former boxing champ required medical attention after becoming ill shortly before reaching his destination.
Medical Emergency on Flight
Tyson’s representatives reported that he became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing. “Thankfully Mr. Tyson is doing great,” his team told KTLA 5 News. “He is appreciative of the medical staff that were there to help him.” An eyewitness on the flight confirmed the incident, noting that paramedics boarded the plane after an announcement was made asking for a doctor.
The flight experienced a two-hour delay before takeoff due to the plane’s air conditioning issues, not because of Tyson’s medical emergency, as initially reported. Tyson was seen being escorted to the gate in Miami before the delay. After the delay, he boarded the plane at 6:30 p.m. and was seated in first class when he became ill.
Tyson’s Upcoming Fight
This health scare comes as Tyson prepares for his upcoming boxing match against Jake Paul on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The fight, which will be streamed live on Netflix, marks Tyson’s return to the ring following his exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020.
Despite being 30 years older than Jake Paul, Tyson has been training daily for the event. He admitted to Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity that he was scared of the fight, saying, “Anything I’m afraid of, I confront it. And that’s my personality. Like right now, I’m scared to death. But as the fight gets closer, the less nervous I become because it’s reality. And in reality, I’m invincible.”
Jake Paul has stated that he will not go easy on Tyson during the match. He says he knows the possibility of being knocked out by the boxing legend. “Mike Tyson is a killer. He’s ruthless. He’s the most vicious champion ever,” Paul told TMZ. “So, I have to channel that Mike Tyson energy to finish him.”
Tyson’s health emergency delayed the flight by an additional 25 minutes upon landing in Los Angeles as paramedics attended to him. His team reassured fans that he is recovering well and expressed gratitude to those who helped during the incident. Tyson’s focus now shifts back to his training as he prepares to face Jake Paul in what promises to be a highly anticipated match.
