This year, iconic rapper MC Lyte is making a return to the music scene with the release of her first album in 10 years. Ahead of the album’s release date, the veteran MC has dropped a new single featuring fellow rapper Queen Latifah.

“King King” features an empowering message over an infectious beat. The songs opens with MC Lyte’s signature lyrical prowess, delivering verses that celebrate the journey of men. She raps, “I see you here doing your thing king,” praising the dedication and commitment of men who have overcome challenges to embrace love and responsibility.

In the chorus, MC Lyte and Queen Latifah harmoniously chant, “It’s your crown, hold it / Even if the world falls down, show it,” emphasizing resilience and the importance of self-confidence in the face of adversity.

MC Lyte shares her inspiration behind the single, stating, “There has never been an anthem like this that celebrated men who are committed to their families. It’s about time we recognize them as Kings who deserve praise for their guidance and protection.”  Teaming up with Queen Latifah adds another layer of strength and unity to this impactful summer anthem.

“They are seen, loved and appreciated.”

Since, its July 3rd release, fans have praised the postitive track. “As a black man, I appreciate this joint a lot. Thanks for showing us so much love”, one YouTube users wrote.

“THANK YOU FOR SHOWING THE BROTHERS SOME LOVE,” another wrote in the comments under the video.

“This is a time, right now, where everybody needs to know and be told that they are seen, that they are loved and that they’re appreciated — and that’s what the song is about,” Lyte said of the new tune.

During the release day of the single, MC Lyte thanked the upstanding men who are taking care of their families as well as Queen Latifah. “Love love and more love to KING KINGS of the world,” she posted to IG. “Taking care of your family. Taking care of your loved ones. God is ALL!!!”

She continued, “Thank you to my sister Queen Latifah for showing up to the studio on a late night to bless us. It’s been along time since we graced the same production and I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity. Nottz You know how we do!!! Long time coming. Truly an honor to rock with you on this and we ain’t stopping no time soon!!!”
