This week, fans of Lauryn Hill and the Fugees were left disappointed when news broke that the 2024 U.S. tour had been canceled. While Hill was quick to place the blame on “sensationalism and clickbait headlines,” her fellow Fugees member Pras had a different perspective to share.

Pras Blames Lauryn Hill’s Reputation

In an interview with TMZ Hip Hop on Friday (Aug. 9), Pras revealed, “I saved her reputation for 20 years by not telling my side of the story.” This statement hinted at deeper issues within the group that have been kept under wraps for years. He added, “But oops… cat’s out the bag.” This response has only fueled the speculation surrounding the reasons for the tour’s sudden cancellation.

Lauryn Hill has long faced criticism for her punctuality—or lack thereof—when it comes to live performances. Over the years, fans have voiced their frustrations about Hill’s frequent tardiness and last-minute cancellations. This tour was meant to be a celebration of the 25th anniversary of her iconic album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.” However, Hill’s track record appears to have finally caught up with her.

In her Instagram statement, Hill explained, “Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows. Regrettably, some media outlet’s penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour.” Despite her explanation, many fans were not convinced.

One fan expressed their frustration on social media, saying, “Lauryn has consistently disappointed her American audience, so it makes sense that ticket sales were low here. Folks don’t trust her.” Another added, “I love Lauryn man. But damn yo. DO BETTER.”

As of now, the European leg of the tour is still scheduled to proceed. Pras remains hopeful that these shows will go on as planned, stating that they should as long as fans continue to buy tickets.
