De La Soul, the hip-hop group that formed on Long Island in the ’80s, just announced a groundbreaking concert happening on January 17, 2025 at Lincoln Center.
The event will celebrate the band’s decision to make its extensive catalogue available to streaming services for the first time ever. It will also pay tribute to founding member David “Trugoy the Dove” Jolicoeur, who passed away earlier this year.
For the January 17th show, the now-duo will be testing a pay-what-you-wish model when selling tickets to attendees.
The suggested price per ticket is $35 but fans can choose to pay less or more for the experience. However there is a $5 minimum. “To make the arts more accessible, tickets are available on a Choose-What-You-Pay basis,” reads a statement posted on the Lincoln Center website.
The group, who was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for their debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising, is also celebrating the 35th anniversary of the release with a digital edition.
“Over the group’s 35-year career, De La Soul has collaborated with virtually every major rap artist and produced nine classic albums,” the Lincoln Center website reads. “Two recent seismic events have served to redefine the group for 2025 and beyond: the overdue addition of their stellar catalog to audio streaming services, and the untimely passing of founding member David ‘Trugoy the Dove’ Jolicoeur.”
The crew made a splash with their streaming debut while registering 12.5 million official on-demand U.S. song streams in the week ending March 9 and sold 28,000 albums, according to Luminate.
