Brandy has picked who she wants to portray her in a biopic.
During a recent interview with A24, the singer was asked who would she want to play her in a biopic. “Who would I cast to play me in a movie about my life? There’s a few people that come to mind, but off the top of the dome… Halle Bailey,” she said.
Back in 2020, Brandy shared her thoughts on Halle playing the role of Ariel in The Little Mermaid, since she played the role of Cinderella in the late 1990s. She would make history by becoming the first Black actress to portray a Disney princess in the television adaption of the Disney classic.
“She needs to keep positive people around her and to also stay positive and to not live her life for anyone but herself,” Brandy said. “And I mean that in a way where sometimes in this industry, we can get caught up in what everybody thinks that we should do.”
The “Almost Doesn’t Count” singer continued, “I believe that her staying true to herself is the reason why she’s in a great position to do all of the things that she’s meant to do.” Brandy went on to commend Halle for being a positive role model for other young Black women. “I just wish her all the best,” she added. “I absolutely love Halle and I love Chlöe. I see so much of myself in Halle.”
Brandy is currently promoting her new film, “The Front Room,” a psychological thriller based on a short story by Susan Hill. The movie is centered around a young couple who’s expecting a child. However, things take a turn when they are forced to take care of an estranged stepmother. The film will be released on Sept. 6, 2024.
