As the 2024 Paris Olympics fade into memory, Flavor Flav is already eyeing the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. The legendary Public Enemy hype man recently revealed his ambitious bid to become an official torchbearer, marking his latest venture into the world of sports.
Speaking on the iHeart’s Politickin podcast, hosted by California Governor Gavin Newsom, former NFL star Marshawn Lynch, and agent Doug Hendrickson, Flav shared his enthusiasm. “Guess what? I got a feeling I might be one of them,” he said with excitement.
He explained that he put his bid in already for the position. “I said, if Snoop can carry the torch in Paris—come on, man—Flav can carry that bad boy in L.A.,” he shared.
Flavor Flav Paying Tribute to Snoop Dogg
During the podcast, Flavor Flav couldn’t help but give a shoutout to his fellow rapper Snoop Dogg, who was a torchbearer for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. “Snoop did a fantastic job, man,” Flav said, praising Snoop’s performance. “He rocked. Even though they did pay him a half-a-million a day, Snoop got a nice payday out there. But besides the payday, he did a good job, and I know that man had a lot of fun out there. Mad big ups to you, Snoop.”
Flav’s admiration didn’t stop there. He also hinted at a personal request to Snoop, hoping to get one of the custom Olympic pins Snoop received. “I want one of them pins too,” Flav added with a chuckle. “He got his own Olympic pin. I’m gonna try to get me one of them Olympic pins.”
Flav’s Olympic aspirations aren’t new. During the 2024 Paris Games, he actively supported U.S. athletes. He sponsored the U.S. Women’s Water Polo team, helped pay discus thrower Veronica Fraley’s rent, and even offered gymnast Jordan Chiles a bedazzled bronze clock necklace after her medal was controversially stripped. “When these athletes are out here playing and practicing, it takes them away from their work. So I said to myself, why not step in and try to help these girls out?” Flav explained during a previous interview.
