VP Kamala Harris is set to send help to the residents of Augusta, Georgia.

On October 2, VP Harris revealed that President Joe Biden had approved Governor Brian Kemp’s request to reimburse the local residents affected by Hurricane Helene in full. The storm left a lot of people without power throughout the region.

However, Augusta was one of the hardest-hit areas. VP Harris said that the reimbursements would cover essential services such as shelter, food, water, the removal of debris, and emergency response efforts. It has been reported that seven people died in the Richmond County area and that 33 people died statewide.

Harris also applauded the first responders for their dedication and calling them “heroes in moments of crisis.” She added that many first responders also suffered from personal losses and still helped others. “They leave their home and family to help perfect strangers.”

She also revealed that FEMA will also provide $750 to individuals who need immediate assistance. Hurricane Helene was a Category 4 storm that hit other states such as Florida, Tennessee, and the Carolinas. Nearly 191 people have been reported dead.
