Michelle Williams recently revealed why she couldn’t attend Vice President Kamala Harris’s rally in Houston with former Destiny’s Child bandmates Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland. Appearing on Sherri on October 29, Williams explained her absence was due to her demanding Broadway schedule in Death Becomes Her, currently in previews in New York.

Broadway Commitments Kept Michelle Williams in New York

“I was so happy, but at the same time, it was the first time that I have not been able to be in person for something that I wanted to be at,” Williams shared. “It’s a sacrifice we make with Broadway.” She expressed her pride in Beyoncé and Rowland for “representing and holding me down in their own way” despite her absence.

While Destiny’s Child fans may have felt her absence keenly, Williams has reassured them that she’s not estranged from her former bandmates. Laughing, she shared that although they’re not always together physically, they still share a close bond. “They live in L.A., I’m in Atlanta,” Williams noted. “People see them at dinner together and wonder, ‘Where’s Michelle?’ But we ain’t together all the time!”

Williams also addressed fan hopes for a full Destiny’s Child reunion. While acknowledging the enthusiasm, she shared how geography and busy schedules often complicate the trio’s ability to gather publicly. However, she hinted they see each other “more than people think.”

Beyoncé Speaks on Unity and Community at Harris Rally

Meanwhile, Beyoncé and Rowland joined Kamala Harris on October 25, showing their support in the singer’s hometown of Houston. Beyoncé addressed the crowd with a passionate endorsement of Harris’s vision, saying, “We are so happy to be standing here as proud, country, Texas women, supporting and celebrating the one and only Vice President Kamala Harris.” She called Harris “the woman who’s been pushing for what this country really needs right now — unity.”

Despite Williams’ absence, she couldn’t be prouder of her bandmates and the message they delivered. Reflecting on the rally, she said, “They held it down.”
