Pop superstar Britney Spears is paying homage to Toni Braxton.
On Halloween, Spears uploaded an Instagram video post where the she can be seen dancing sensually to Braxton’s 1996 hit, “You’re Making Me High.” Spears also shared that she considered the R&B songstress “a God” during her high school years.
“Toni Braxton was a god to me in high school!!!,” Spears shared within the clip’s caption. “I literally dance and work out every day here !!! I feel so blessed, so incredibly inspired, and alive again !!! God bless.”
That compliment can be supported reflecting back on the beginning stages of her career. In 1997, Spears recorded a song titled, “Today” which is a cover of an unreleased Toni Braxton song recorded for her sophomore album Secrets. It was offered to Spears to record for her demo tape which was presented to various record labels.
At the time even label president Clive Calder said “she sounds too much like Toni Braxton” as reported by Buzzmarketing.
In 2011, Spears later said, “I grew up listening to Toni Braxton, and now I think she has a reality show that she does. I love her.”
It looks like fans are excited to see Braxton do a cover of Spears in the future as well. One Tik Tok user, uploaded a video of what a “Toxic” cover from Braxton would ideally sound like with a lower register.
In 2018, Toni Braxton was honored by Beyoncé when the “Lemonade” singer dressed as the songstress as a Halloween costume.
Beyonce captioned her Instagram post saying: “Sending love and adoration to one of our talented legends. Thank you for the countless bops. Your tone, your beauty, your range, and your God-given talent is treasured. Loving you always. Have a Happy Halloween my Kings and Queens.
The singer recreated multiple covers of Braxton’s self-titled album to perfection with a short wig, white tank top, leather jacket, and jeans accented with chains.
