Tyler Perry’s “Beauty in Black” series is gaining more traction as it rose to become Netflix’s most-watched TV series of the week.

The new insight arrives shortly after its Oct. 24 premiere. From the premiere date through Oct. 27, “Beauty in Black” received a significant viewership boost in its second week, logging 8.7 million views during the week of Oct. 28.

Perry shared his excitement on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the positive reception and how viewers connected with the show. In a post shared to his 7.6 million followers, the filmmaker wrote, “Every number one makes me more and more humbled! I don’t need a number one to be grateful, but we are glad to have it. THANK YOU EVERYONE, I’m so very proud of this cast! Congrats team Beauty in Black! Keep dreaming bigger!”

“The new series follows two women on very different life trajectories on a collision course toward each other,” an official description reads. “…Set in Atlanta, the story brings together a wealthy Black family atop a hair care dynasty and an exotic dancer caught up in the seedy underbelly of a famed Magic City strip club.”

The show was created as part of a Netflix deal that will see Perry create films from beginning to end.

“I was told many times over many years that Black entertainment doesn’t travel throughout the world. So, to have Netflix continue to disprove that over and over with everything I’ve put on the platform has been phenomenal,” Perry told Tudum.

Perry is also set to be honored with the Paley Center for Media’s Honor Award in an upcoming December gala
