Some time ago, LL Cool J revealed that he once collaborated with the late King of Pop on a song that was never released. However, the song has since been discovered.
We recently reported that Gregg Musgrove, a former California Highway Patrol Officer, had found unreleased Jackson music in a storage unit he had purchased in Van Nuys, California. The unit used to belong to music producer Bryan Loren.
The songs were recorded between 1989 and 1991. They include 12 unreleased songs, including the duet “Truth on Youth,” which features LL Cool J and Michael Jackson. Musgrove has plans to auction the tapes, but the song will most likely not be released. Jackson’s estate currently owns the copyright to the recordings.
A representative for his estate said, “The Estate of Michael Jackson was presented with DAT copies, NOT master recordings of Michael’s music, and we confirmed that the actual master recordings were in fact already located in the Estate’s vaults. It should be clear to all that ownership and rights of exploitation to the recordings remain vested in MJJP Records, and that nothing commercial or otherwise can be done with the DAT copies.”
In a previous interview, the Queens-born rapper talked about his time working with Michael Jackson and shared his admiration for the music icon. “Me and Michael Jackson went to the studio, man,” he said. “Mike showed a lot of love to me in general, and definitely to Hip Hop. Let’s be clear: For me, he’s the king. I’m a Michael Jackson fan, b. His talent speaks for itself.”
