Netflix has announced a three-part docuseries delving into the life of boxing legend Mike Tyson. Directed by Floyd Russ, the hour-long episodes will explore Tyson’s rise to fame, personal struggles, and eventual redemption. The project aims to offer a raw and reflective portrait of one of sports history’s most controversial and compelling figures.

A Journey of Triumph, Turmoil, and Redemption in the life of Mike Tyson

“Having an opportunity to share my story through the reflective lens of my growth and maturity in a multi-part documentary on Netflix will be a challenging journey, yet a very welcoming one,” Tyson shared in a statement. “Most people are too scared to look at their lives objectively. But if we are truly objective, we know we can never be the hero in our own story.”

Netflix describes the series as an in-depth look at “the man behind the gloves.” It will chronicle Tyson’s early success, including becoming the youngest heavyweight champion at 20 years old, and his widely publicized struggles with legal issues, substance abuse, and financial hardships. Tyson’s career was marked by meteoric highs and devastating lows, from his dominance as the “Baddest Man on the Planet” to his infamous 1997 biting incident with Evander Holyfield.

Tyson’s story extends beyond the boxing ring. After serving time in prison during the early ’90s, he made a comeback, reclaiming the heavyweight title. Despite declaring bankruptcy in 2003, Tyson has since reinvented himself as a media personality and entrepreneur.

The docuseries follows Tyson’s reflections on his life. “We have to be able to face the man in the mirror, taking the good with the bad to give a full account of our contributions in this life,” he said.

Executive produced by Floyd Russ and backed by EverWonder Studio, DLP Media Group, and others, this project joins Netflix’s expanding roster of sports documentaries. Tyson’s compelling life story promises to resonate with audiences worldwide, offering a candid look at his journey of resilience and self-discovery.

The docuseries has no official title or release date yet but is already generating significant anticipation.
