Bishop T.D. Jakes has announced that he will be stepping down from his role as leader of The Potter’s House, the megachurch he founded in 1996.
Leadership will be passed on to his daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and her husband, Touré Roberts.
“This is about legacy,” Jakes said of the transition. “Not because they’re family, but because they’re the right fit. They’ve deeply embraced the heart and mission of this church for many years.”
Reflecting on the moment, Sarah expressed her gratitude: “I’m honored and thankful. As your daughter, I’m especially happy to see you finally take some well-deserved rest.”
The change comes after Jakes suffered a medical emergency while giving a sermon. Bishop Jakes stopped preaching before he was seen shaking. The sermon was being live-streamed at the time of the emergency.
Following the health scare, his daughter, Sarah Jakes spoke out, “hey family, I know today’s been an interesting day for us, But we didn’t want to lay down without giving you all an update about how everything is going with Bishop,” Sarah and her husband explained.
“Obviously today could have been a tragic day. But it wasn’t by mercy of God, by the grace of God. Bishop is doing well. He’s recovering well- He’s under medical care. He’s strong. We’re trying to get him to sit down. He’s the strong Bishop that we know.”
