Back in April, Kyle Alwood, a nine year old boy from Eureka, Illinois was accused of intentionally setting his mobile family home on fire, killing five of his family members including 3 toddlers and 2 adults.
According to reports, the nine year-old is being charged with five counts of first degree murder. His mom, Katie Alwood is finally speaking out publicly in regards to the tragic event. In a video interview with CBS, she gets emotional as she explains the events that occurred that night and gives her thoughts on her sons actions.
“Everyone is looking at him like he’s some kind of monster, but that’s not who he is.” She describes his actions as a mistake and also adds “Yes, it was a horrible tragedy, but it’s still not something to throw his life away over.”
Kyle Alwood, is said to be diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and ADHD. She also disclosed that her son had an interest in lighters.
Alwood is reportedly being held in an undisclosed area due to death threats that the nine year old has been receiving.
Kyle’s aunt, Samantha Alwood, who also lost her 2 year old daughter in the fire, believes he should be sent to a juvenile facility until he is old enough to be jailed. Many others have also publicly expressed their opinions in regards to whether or not the nine year old should be charged.
