Black in Black and White Photography Exhibit

Abigail Ekue Photography unveils her debut exhibit of the ongoing “Black in Black and White” portrait series, showcasing 48 dynamic black-and-white images of Black creatives across music, film, and publishing. The striking contrast of the white backdrop against the subjects highlights the depth and richness of their features, celebrating the diversity within the Black diaspora. This fine art exhibit strips everything down to the essentials, leaving only the subjects and their stories to resonate.

The Artist Gardener NYC’s fifth annual exhibition features seven BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) artists, in collaboration with Evan Voelbel, showcasing works created during their Ankhlave Garden Project Fellowship. This exhibit delves into cultural roots and the harmony between nature and humanity. Public events throughout the exhibition invite communities to engage in meaningful dialogue, driven by Ankhlave Arts Alliance’s vision of art as a tool for transformation and cultural exchange.

Songs That Brought Us Through will be held on October 6th, showcasing June E. Townes & Gospera, a Harlem-based vocal ensemble. The group is devoted to honoring the African-American music heritage of spirituals, gospel, hymns, and sacred anthems. The event will also celebrate music traditions through poetic narratives.

The Free Black Women’s Library Cut & Conjure Series: Creating Grief Collages

The Free Black Women’s Library offers over 5,000 books by Black women and non-binary authors, alongside a variety of public programs and workshops. This community space also features a period pantry, a free store, and a weekly book swap. On Sunday, October 6th, at 3 p.m., they’ll host “Cut & Conjure,” a collage session designed to explore emotions through art.
