Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson has made history, breaking the WNBA’s single-season scoring record. On Wednesday, September 11, Wilson scored 27 points in an 86-75 victory over the Indiana Fever, bringing her season total to 956 points. She surpassed the previous record of 939 points, set by Jewell Loyd in 2023.

“It’s a blessing, it really is,” Wilson said after the game. “It’s something that I don’t take for granted. We have some phenomenal players in this league, so for my name to be on that list, it’s truly a blessing.”

Wilson made history with a mid-range jumper in the final seconds of the first half, cementing her place in the WNBA record books. Her performance also included a double-double with 12 rebounds, two steals, and three blocks.

A’ja Wilson’s Teammates’ Support and Leadership

Wilson credited her success to her Aces teammates. “I have to credit my teammates because without them I wouldn’t get the basketball,” she said. “Them continuing to pour into me so I can pour into them goes a long way.”

Aces forward Alysha Clark praised Wilson’s leadership both on and off the court. “The crown is heavy, but she shows up every day and pours into those around her,” Clark said. “I don’t think people understand how special that is for a franchise player, a superstar, to do on a consistent basis.”

With four regular-season games remaining, Wilson is on pace to become the first WNBA player to reach 1,000 points in a single season. She currently averages 27.3 points per game and needs just 44 more to hit the milestone.

A Legendary Season

Wilson’s record-breaking season adds to her MVP-caliber year. She remains the frontrunner for her third MVP award, and her contributions have put the Aces in contention for a third straight WNBA championship.
