Angela Bassett Wins Her First Emmy

Angela Bassett can now add “Emmy-Award-Winning” to her name.

The actress won her first Emmy after having a career total of nine nominations. She won the Emmy for best narrator for her work on Queens, a docuseries about matriarchies in nature. at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday, September 7.

During her acceptance speech, the “9-1-1” actress, overcome with emotion said, “Oh my God. Wow. My first Emmy!” She continued, “It feels good… really, really good.” She went on to say thank you to “National Geographic, Wildstar Films, and all the directors- all women! – Who brought this incredible story, this incredible docuseries centered on the ferocious and magnificent things in the animal kingdom.” 

Bassett added, “I couldn’t be more thrilled and more grateful. Thank you, each and every one of you.” This win comes after Angela Bassett received her first Academy Award, an honorary Oscar for her contributions to the film industry. 

After she received her award she was asked by a reporter why was she so surprised by her win when it was so deserving, she replied, “This is one of the really, really big ones, you know what I mean? And so that… that doesn’t usually happen.” 

She continued, “But also, whenever you’re acknowledged… I’m just a girl who wanted to act, and, and my mentors were way out ahead of me. And I just looked to them and got inspiration and hope and and I just put my focus and my energy and my love to try to make it happen in my life, or for my life.”
