BET’s iconic music video countdown show, 106 & Park, may be returning in a new form. BET CEO Scott Mills recently discussed the show’s future during a recent interview. While promoting the 2025 NAACP Image Awards, Mills addressed the enduring legacy of the beloved series.
“People love 106 & Park,” Mills stated. “The fact that it doesn’t work as a linear television show doesn’t mean it’s over. We can bring 106 & Park back as a podcast, as a digital experience.”
The original show debuted on September 11, 2000, and ran for over a decade, concluding in 2014 after 3,710 episodes. Its influence on music, culture, and young audiences in the early 2000s remains significant. The show provided a platform for artists like Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Destiny’s Child while fostering a strong connection with its fans.
A Digital Era Revival for 106 & Park
Mills revealed that the revival of the show would be tailored to the digital age. “We are evolving what 106 & Park will look like in 2025 because it does have that very important role,” he explained. “We’ve got a number of really exciting executions. We’re approaching the 25th anniversary of 106 & Park as well, so there’ll be some things that y’all will really be excited about.”
Mills also hinted that the revamped version could align with BET’s celebration of the show’s 25th anniversary. This milestone, occurring in 2025, has sparked creative ideas to honor the program’s legacy while reimagining its format.
Chloe Bailey shared her thoughts on the show’s cultural significance. “For me, I grew up loving 106 & Park,” Bailey said. “That was the show for me to be inspired, to get excited. I’d run home from school and that’s what I would put on.”
As fans eagerly await updates, Mills’ comments suggest a fresh chapter for the show. Whether through podcasts or interactive digital content, the show’s legacy of celebrating Black culture and talent seems poised to continue in innovative ways.
