In a highly anticipated move, Bronny James, son of NBA legend LeBron James, will soon make his G League debut for the South Bay Lakers. The Los Angeles Lakers confirmed that James would be assigned to their G League affiliate, with plans for his first game against the Salt Lake City Stars this Saturday. The matchup is sold out, showing strong interest in seeing the younger James’ skills on display.

Bronny James to Split Time Between Lakers and South Bay Lakers

“The plan for Bronny to move between the Lakers and South Bay has always been the plan since day one,” said Lakers head coach JJ Redick. The Lakers have structured James’ rookie season to give him development opportunities both on the NBA stage and in the G League, ensuring he gains experience and training with his team’s affiliate. The organization plans for James to play exclusively in home games for the South Bay Lakers while retaining his spot on the Lakers’ main roster.

The Lakers’ approach is a calculated one, encouraging gradual growth for the 20-year-old rookie. According to sources close to the situation, the split time between the Lakers and South Bay was a concept supported by Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, who represents Bronny. “Paul and James welcomed the idea of G League development, advocating for a traditional contract over a two-way deal,” reported ESPN.

Bronny, who was the 55th pick in this year’s draft, has already had memorable NBA moments, including scoring his first career points in a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on October 30. On October 22, he and his father made history by becoming the first father-son duo to play in an NBA game together, marking a historic achievement for the James family and the league.

Lakers fans can expect to see Bronny on Friday, when he’s set to rejoin the Lakers roster against the Philadelphia 76ers. However, his consistent presence will be at the UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo, where he’ll suit up for South Bay’s home games. Coach Redick has noted that “our plans are always fluid based on real time,” leaving room for potential adjustments depending on Bronny’s progress.

With Bronny James’ debut imminent, the South Bay Lakers are set to see unprecedented fan turnout, as the young player forges his own path in the professional basketball world.
