Busta Rhymes recently shared the nearly fatal experience that led him to his weight loss journey and lifestyle change.
In a recent Hip Hop 50 issue for Men’s Health, the Brooklyn native revealed that a health scare after being intimate with his now ex-wife encouraged him to get back in shape.
Busta described the moment,“ I was trying to inhale, and it felt like it wasn’t working. I felt like I was having an asthma attack—but I don’t have asthma. So I walked out of the bedroom and went into the living room, and I was forcing myself to inhale, to relax.”
He went on to share how his ex-wife worried and encouraged him to lose weight for his wellness.
Busta attributed his weight gain to the 2014 loss of his father and not dealing with it properly. He stated, “I was trying to inhale, and it felt like it wasn’t working. I felt like I was having an asthma attack—but I don’t have asthma. So I walked out of the bedroom and went into the living room, and I was forcing myself to inhale, to relax.”
The legendary emcee also shares legendary untold stories as he recalls the time Tupac choked an audio engineer on behalf of Busta and his Leaders of the New School groupmates.
“[Tupac said], ‘You not gonna disrespect motherf**ker. Leaders of the New School, motherf**ker,” Busta added. “We ain’t asking for none of this. So, we grabbing Pac like, ‘Stop, B! You gonna f**k around and not even get us the opportunity to perform. You gonna f**k up the whole bag.’ [He said], ‘Man, f**k that! They can’t be disrespecting y’all. Y’all legends.’ We one album deep. He calling us legends.”
The 51-year-old rapper has lost 100 pounds and continues his journey while preparing for his set on 50 Cent’s The Final Lap Tour.
