Chris Brown is suing over a recent docuseries called A History of Violence.
The singer has filed a $500 million lawsuit and is suing the people of Investigation Discovery, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Ample Entertainment. The lawsuit states that they “knowingly promoted and published false information in the pursuit of likes, clicks, downloads, and dollars.”
The lawsuit also states that the docuseries is “full of lies and deception,” with an unidentified accuser being in the series. Brown’s legal team acknowledged that he has made mistakes in the past, which he addressed in his own documentary in 2017.
His lawyers argued that the “Run It” has evolved since then and the docuseries is built off of falsehoods. A History of Violence was released last year and was the first Warner Bros. Discovery series to be hit with a defamation lawsuit. Dan Schneider, Nickelodeon alum, also filed a defamation lawsuit over Quiet on Set docuseries back in May.
Chris Brown shared a press release about the lawsuit. Brown’s lawyer, Levi McCathern, said in a statement, that the defamation case is “about protecting the truth.” He also said, “This case is about protecting the truth. Despite being provided with evidence disproving their claims, the producers of this documentary intentionally promoted false and defamatory information, knowingly disregarding their ethical obligations as journalists. Their actions undermine not only Mr. Brown’s decade-long efforts to rebuild his life but also the credibility of true survivors of violence.”
The money from the lawsuit will go towards domestic violence survivors.
