Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Chrisette Michele has released her new single “Home.”
“Home” serves as Michele’s first song, since 2020’s “Wait.”
The inspirational new song includes lyrics that are meant to bring anyone back to their roots and remind us all that it’s ok to return to where you belong.
“Been a long road / Shoulda never left / Almost lost my soul / But now look at where I’m at / I’m home / Back on the soil I was grown on / Back with the people that I belong,” Michele sings on the touching tune.
Early this month, the R&B singer kicked off the Chrisette Michele is Home tour. The first three dates were held at the Pittsburgh City Winery before visiting 15 other cities and wrapping up in Atlanta.
“The upbeat, horn filled, soulful tunes will put a smile on anyone’s face. The new lyrics came straight from heaven to my heart, Michele said in a statement.
She continued, “My hope is that people will feel the joy I feel in my heart and sing along. There’s been enough heart break. Pain is just a season, it’s not forever. I finally feel ‘At Home’ on the stage… I’ve waited for this feeling for a long time.”
Seven years ago Michele was the subject of cancel culture for performing at Trump’s inaugural ball. She was dropped by her label, received death threats, struggled with depression, and suffered a miscarriage.
She and Travis Greene performed, “Intentional” in an attempt to ‘heal the country’. However, a lot of people — especially in the Black community — wanted nothing to do with her or her music afterward. Following the performance, Spike Lee reportedly scrapped her song “Black Girl Magic” from his Netflix series “She’s Gotta Have It” because he didn’t want to feel “misrepresented.”
In an Ted Talk, Michele addressed the backlash head-on.
“Like many of you, I felt the collective break in the country’s heart and the hearts of millions. So, I decided to sing a song I thought could heal. The song written by Travis Greene was called ‘Intentional.’ He took the first verse; I took the second. Instead of ‘healing,’ there was a media onslaught of ‘hate’ — somehow Travis’ music shot up the charts, but I was deemed ‘cancelled’ by the loudest voices of social media. While I despise talking about the cultural phenomenon that is ‘cancel culture,’ I still to this day can’t get through an interview without being asked about it. So, I decided to take this opportunity to share my thoughts on the matter once and for all.”
