Colin Kaepernick, at 36 years old, remains determined to make a return to the NFL. Despite not playing since 2016, Kaepernick continues to train daily, holding onto the hope that one NFL team will offer him an opportunity. In a recent interview with Sky News, he reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the sport. “We’re still training, still pushing,” he said. “So hopefully, we’ve just got to get one of these team owners to open up.”
Kaepernick’s Comeback Dream
Kaepernick has not wavered in his desire to play professional football again. He expressed the personal significance of returning to the field, stating, “I mean, it’s something I’ve trained my whole life for. So to be able to step back on the field would be a major moment, a major accomplishment for me.” He also believes he can make a real impact. “I think it’s something that I could bring a lot to a team and help them win a championship,” Kaepernick added.
Since his protest in 2016 against police brutality, which involved kneeling during the National Anthem, Kaepernick has faced challenges in securing a spot on an NFL roster. His protest led to widespread controversy and eventually sparked debates around the league and beyond. He opted out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers and has been out of the league ever since.
In 2022, Kaepernick had a workout with the Oakland Raiders, but the team chose another direction at the quarterback position. In 2023, after Aaron Rodgers’s injury, Kaepernick even wrote a letter to the New York Jets, offering his services as a backup QB. He remains committed to showing that he is still a viable option, yet many believe the NFL has blackballed him. Despite the challenges, Kaepernick holds onto his goal, continuing to push for that long-awaited chance.
