Connie Chiume ‘Black Panther’ Actress Passes Away At 72

Actress Connie Chiume best known for her role in “Black Panther” has passed away. 

The news of her passing was shared by her family via social media who confirmed that she passed away at Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa. 

“The Chiume Family regrets to inform you of the passing of the Internationally Acclaimed, award-winning actress Connie Chiume,” the post read. In the same post the family requested “privacy during this difficult period. The family will communicate further details.” 

The actress’s son, Nongelo Chiume, said that his mother was “admitted to the hospital to undergo a medical procedure and that she was recovering well, but unfortunately we then got the news of her passing.” 

Connie Chiume was a teacher before she rose to fame for her role as Stella Moloi in the SABC1 drama series “Zone 14.” She will go on to win the South African Film and Television Award for the role. Throughout her career, she has appeared in some notable films including “Little Shop of Horrors,” and both of the “Black Panther” movies. 

Chiume’s cause of death has not been revealed. We will continue to keep her family and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.
