After the unprecedented success of Wicked, Cynthia Ervio has her eyes on another role. The EGOT winner wants to play Storm in a new X-Men film.

During an interview at the National Board of Review Awards Gala in New York City on Tuesday, Jan. 7, Ervio explained how much she would love the character.

“I really want to play Storm,” Erivo shared.

“I know it sounds frivolous, but I think we haven’t uncovered how grand she is, and all of that inner turmoil she has,” Ervio continued. “So I think there’s a world in which we could do something with that.”

Oscar-winner Halle Berry famously first portrayed the Marvel superhero on the big screen. She starred in X-Men (2000), X2: X-Men United (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014).

In 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix in 2019,  a younger version of Storm was played by Alexandra Shipp.

Ervio is not the only high-profile actress who wants to play Storm in the next X-Men movie. Back in July 2020, Janelle Monáe also expressed interest in the role.

“I definitely have thrown it out there,” Monáe said during an interview with Empire Magazine.

“One of my dreams has always been to play Storm,” Monáe said. “I don’t know if she comes in Black Panther, but it would be a dream to have her in it. I don’t know where they are with that.”

“A lot of women have played Storm and they’ve done an exceptional job,” Monáe added. “And I would love to be in that line of artists and get to do Storm justice.”

According to Screen Rant, the new X-Men movie, which will be the first one in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is currently in development.
