Denzel Washington is ending the year with a huge spiritual step.

On Dec 21, the renown actor was baptized at the Historic Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ in New York. Washington was baptized by Bishop James Pullings Jr., marking a profound moment in Washington’s spiritual journey.

In addition to his baptism, Washington has officially become a licensed minister in the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) organization, embracing a new role outside of his remarkable acting career.

As Eurweb reports, Washington grew up in a robust Christian household, with his father serving as a Pentecostal minister. During his upbringing, his parents created a foundation for him that was deeply rooted in faith. Thus this exposure undoubtedly influenced his worldview, shaping his character both on and off the screen.

Currently a member of the West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles, his baptism at Kelly Temple marked what he termed his “greatest accomplishment.”

“It took a while, but I’m finally here… If [God] can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you. The sky literally is the limit,” Denzel declared in an emotional address during the baptism ceremony.”

The Academy Award-winning actor previously spoke about his faith as a speaker at “The Better Man Event” in 2017.

“At 66, getting ready to be 67, having just buried my mother, I made a promise to her and to God, not just to do good the right way, but to honor my mother and my father by the way I live my life, the rest of my days on this Earth. I’m here to serve, to help, to provide,” Washington shared at the Christian men’s conference.

During the nearly 30-minute sit-down discussion, Washington told Pastor A.R. Bernard what God had been telling him every time he prayed.

“In every prayer, all I hear is: ‘Feed my sheep.’ That’s what God wants me to do,” the “Fences” actor shared.
