Denzel Washington will appear in the upcoming Black Panther film.
According to reports, the actor was on a press tour for his role as Macrinus in the upcoming movie Gladiator II. He spoke about not feeling the pressure of working on something big like this.
“For me, it’s about the filmmaker, especially at this point in my career,” Washington, 69, said. “I’m only interested in working with the best. I don’t know how many more films I’m gonna make, probably not that many. I wanna do things I haven’t done.”
The veteran actor also hinted at retiring after he’s completed several projects that he has lined up, including playing Othello again. He played the role in his early twenties. “I’ve played Othello at 22. I’m about to play Othello at 70,” he said.
“After that, I’m playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking with Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler’s writing a part for me in the next Black Panther. After that, I’m gonna do the film Othello. After that, I’m gonna do King Lear. After that, I’m gonna retire.”
Denzel Washington and Chadwick Boseman had a special connection before Boseman’s passing in 2020. Washington played a pivotal part in the late actor’s life and financially supported him as well as other acting students. Boseman later revealed that if it wasn’t for Denzel Washington, there would be no Black Panther.
Gladiator II will be released in theaters on Nov. 22 and it also stars Pedro Pascal and Joseph Quinn.
