Diddy will remain in federal custody after his legal team argued for bail in court on Wednesday.
As previously reported, the music mogul was arrested on Monday on multiple charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking. The federal indictment accuses Diddy of using his lifestyle, media and music companies to help orchestrate a widespread criminal enterprise.
On Wednesday, Judge Andrew L. Carter ruled that Combs will remain in jail due to the risk of witness tampering and obstruction in his case. According to CNN, his next court appearance was scheduled for Oct 9 but his attorney, Marc Agnifilo, plans to appeal the ruling again.
“I’m not going to let him sit in that jail a day longer than he has to,” Agnifilo said. When asked about Combs’ apparent lack of reaction to the ruling, Agnifilo said: “He’s a stoic guy in his manner. He’s been through a lot in his life.”
As reported by the Associated Press, the assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Johnson told Judge Carter that the he has a “long history of intimidating both accusers and witnesses to his alleged abuse.” Strengthening her point, Johnson cited texr messages from women who claimed Combs threatened to leak videos of them engaging in “Freak Offs.
“I believe he’s innocent”
Agnifilo, relentless in his fight for his client, emphasized that even though they didn’t receive their desired outcome, he is not giving up.
“I obviously would much prefer to fight this case with him out of jail, and we’re going to try to bring that about through additional legal process, but wherever he is, his resolve is the same,” Agnifilo said. “He believes he’s innocent. I believe he’s innocent, and we’re going to fight this case with all of our might until we don’t have to fight any longer.”
Combs is currently being held in solitude within the Special Housing Unit at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center.
