Sean “Diddy” Combs is asking for his trial to be delayed by two months.
According to reports, his legal team sent a letter to the judge in the case, Arun Subramanian, asking for the federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial to be delayed for two months before the jury is selected.
In the letter, the attorneys argued that the delay “was needed for several reasons,” starting with the new charges against their client. The letter also includes the government’s part in the case, stating that the new indictment was “encompassed by a previous charging instrument.” The lawyers also mentioned how the government handled the evidence of the alleged victims in this case, arguing that they should be entitled to a “vast amount of communications from the unnamed alleged victim, even if the government does not have possession of all of the evidence itself.”
However, the government responded to the letter saying, “There is no law to support his request that the Government obtain and produce such documents not in its possession. Indeed, the request borders on frivolous.”
Judge Subramanian issued a response to Diddy’s letter and said, “the parties should proceed on the current schedule,” but took into account that the decision was only “temporary and depended on the results of a pre-trial conference taking place this coming Friday, April 18.
This news comes after it was reported that Young Thug’s lawyer, Brian Steel, was joining Diddy’s legal team. Diddy, 55, has pleaded not guilty to racketeering and sex trafficking charges.
