Miami city officials have revoked Sean “Diddy” Combs’ honorary Key to the City amid ongoing sexual assault allegations. The decision, made official this week, follows Combs’ September arrest on federal charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. The move comes nearly ten years after he received the key and months after the city had already revoked his honorary “Diddy Day.”
According to sources, Miami Mayor Steven Meiner and the city commission reached a unanimous decision to strip Combs of the honor. While Meiner has yet to formally sign the resolution, sources indicate it is merely a formality. “The unanimous vote reflects the city’s commitment to distancing itself from Combs amid these troubling allegations,” a source close to the matter told TMZ.
Miami’s Moves to Disassociate from Diddy
Combs was initially awarded the key in 2015 by then-Mayor Philip Levine during the Revolt Music Conference at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel. At the time, the city celebrated his influence in the music industry and declared October 13 as “Sean Diddy Combs Day.” However, the city rescinded this annual honor in June following the emergence of disturbing accusations from multiple alleged victims, including minors.
Miami’s distancing from the rapper and mogul has intensified since Homeland Security raided his homes in both Miami Beach and Los Angeles earlier this year. These raids were part of a larger investigation into alleged sex trafficking activities connected to Combs. “The charges and allegations made against him have shocked our community,” another city official said. “This isn’t a person we want symbolizing our city.”
Public Backlash and a Growing List of Accusations
The controversy has escalated with each new claim. Texas attorney Tony Buzbee recently stated that he represents 120 people with allegations against Combs, 25 of whom were underage at the time of the alleged abuse. These accusations span over two decades and paint a disturbing pattern of misconduct.
In New York, Combs preemptively returned his honorary key in June at the request of Mayor Eric Adams, who sought to avoid further controversy following leaked footage of Combs allegedly assaulting ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. Combs has denied the allegations, but the growing public backlash has been significant.
With the official revocation of his Miami City Key, Combs faces yet another public and symbolic setback as the allegations against him continue to unfold.
