Ida B.Wells To Be Honored With A New Barbie Doll

Ida B.Wells, the Black American journalist, anti-lynching crusader, and suffragist will be honored with a Barbie doll in her likeness.

Wells was born into slavery in Mississippi in 1862 and was known for breaking boundaries and fighting to expand the right to vote for women.

In 2020, she posthumously won a Pulitzer Prize for her reporting on the violence against African Americans during the era of lynching. She was also one of the founders of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

In an Instagram post for Barbie, they spoke on the accomplishment:

“Barbie is proud to honor the incredible Ida B. Wells as the newest role model in our Inspiring Women series, dedicated to spotlighting heroes who paved the way for generations of girls to dream big and make a difference.”

The Ida B.Wells doll will be released to retailers on January 17th.
