Mike Tyson is speaking about his health issues and his ongoing battle with Sciatica.
The news comes after photos appeared online of the boxing legend sitting in a wheelchair last month after he was seen taking selfies with fans at the airports. During an interview, he came clean about his health issues.
“I have sciatica every now and then, it flares up. When it flares up, I can’t even talk! Thank God it’s the only health problem I have. I’m splendid now,” Tyson said. “Everybody in my house is truly blessed and we’re all very grateful for whatever we have.”
This medical condition seems to impact the nerves in Tyson’s back. In 2005, he was forced into retirement because of ongoing problems with his back. Since raising some concerns, Tyson has been seen moving fine at the U.S. Open for Serena Williams’ last match.
According to reports, sciatica is “nerve pain from an injury or irritation to the sciatic nerve, which originates in your buttock/gluteal area.”
The photos weren’t the first time that the former heavyweight champion raised concerns about his health. On his podcast Hotboxin’ he said that he was unsure of how much longer he was going to live.
“We’re all gonna die one day of course. Then, when I look in the mirror, I see those little spots on my face… I say, “Wow. That means my expiration date is coming close, really soon.”
