Rihanna received a huge honor in her home country of Barbados.
The singer became a National Hero of the country, who was awarded by Prime Minister Mia Mottely. The recognition took place during the country’s first Presidential Inauguration.
During her speech, Prime Minister Mottley said to the Billionaire singer, “On behalf of a grateful nation, but an even prouder people, we, therefore, present to you the designee for National Hero of Barbados, Ambassador Robyn Rihanna Fenty .”
Rihanna’s honor comes just as it was announced that the country is no longer under British rule, becoming its own republic. Barbados was under British rule from 1966, with Queen Elizabeth II ruling as the head of state until recently.
Rihanna will be honored every 28th of April on National Heroes Day in her home country.
