Swizz Beatz wants to give back to the men who paved a way for him in the music industry.
Swizz feels the people who birthed the number one genre in the world, hip hop, which includes, Melle Mel, Grandmaster Flash, and Sugar Hill Gang, are deserving of being paid taxes. During an Instagram Live session with Joe Budden, Swizz said that newer rappers should “pay taxes to the icons.” Swizz went on to say that he wants to raise $1 million apiece for each founding father of hip hop.
During the conversation, you can tell Swizz feels strongly about taking care of the people who created something that millions of people enjoy.
“The fact we don’t pay taxes as artists to those icons that paved the way, took the lower cut for the music that allows us to feed our family… F*ck the government. We need to be paying taxes to the creatives of hip hop that gave us freedom of speech to move forward. I’m going to go so hard with that.”
