Fatman Scoop’s Ex-Wife Shanda Freeman Remembers Him As an ‘Icon and Legend’

Fatman Scoop’s ex-wife Shanda Freeman took to social media to share a heartfelt message following the renowned DJ’s death at age 56. 

On Saturday, Aug. 31, the author and life coach shared a series of photos of Fatman Scoop — real name Isaac Freeman III — on Instagram shortly after his death was announced. Scoop collapsed while performing on stage in Hamden, Connecticut on Friday night.

“He was a pure heart”

The following day, Freeman shared a photo with the New York-based entertainer and wrote:

“I would like to PERSONALLY THANK each and EVERY PERSON that has shown so much LOVE for Isaac @fatmanscoop and myself. He was an ICON and LEGEND and so many people love him,” Shanda wrote on Instagram, alongside a YouTube screenshot of their ’00s MTV reality show Man & Wife.

“He was a pure heart and loved reaching back and helping others. Isaac had THE BEST PARENTS and learned his heart through them. He will FOREVER be MISSED, APPRECIATED and ADORED by so many,” she added. “He put me in front of the camera and I’ll forever be GRATEFUL and LOVE HIM. Thank you ALL SO MUCH!! Shanda ❤️🙏🏾”

Shanda and Scoop were together for 13 years before divorcing.They starred on an MTV reality TV show called Man & Wife, about their lives as married couple in the hip-hop community, in 2008. 

Scoop’s cause of death is unknown.

Following his sudden collapse, he was given CPR and rushed to the hospital.

The artist’s family announced his death on Saturday, posting a message to Scoop’s 200,000 followers. 

Missy Elliott led the celebrity tributes saying his voice made people want to dance for more than 20 years. The 53-year-old hip-hop star posted to X: “Prayers for Fatman Scoop family for STRENGTH during this difficult time.”

Missy worked with him on her 2005 hit Lose Control, and added alongside a photo of her late friend: “Fatman Scoop’s VOICE & energy have contributed to MANY songs that made the people feel HAPPY & want to dance for over 2 decades. Your IMPACT is HUGE & will be NEVER be forgotten.”
