Other Three Officers Will Be Charged In George Floyd Death + Derek Chauvin’s Charge Upgraded To 2nd Degree Murder

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar says the other three officers involved in George Floyd’s death will be charged in his murder.

The State Attorney General is also reportedly expected to upgrade Derek Chauvin’s charges to second-degree murder. Senator Klobuchar says this is an “important step for justice.”

Chauvin was originally charged with 3rd degree murder and manslaughter. John Harrington, the commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, announced that Chauvin was taken into custody by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

“We have now been able to put together the evidence that we need. Even as late as yesterday afternoon, we did not have all that we needed,” Freeman said. “This is by far the fastest that we’ve ever charged a police officer.”

Chauvin is the former officer seen in the viral video with his knee on Floyd’s neck, as Floyd pleads that he can’t breathe.
