Gabrielle Union has had a successful career as an actress, winning many accolades and awards. She is now opening up about her view on her financial success and how she still hasn’t quite grasped the amount she makes.
Union sat down with Bloomberg for their Idea Generation series. She discussed many topics surrounding business, branding and why she feels like she’s financially conservative. She has been married to her husband, Dwyane Wade since 2014. The two have both been very successful, but at home she makes it clear that they are equals.
“It’s weird to say I’m head of household, because in this household we split everything 50/50,” she explained. “But in the other households that each of us have to support, it puts this – there’s always this gorilla on your back – that’s like, “You better work, you better work, you better work -are you gonna sleep in? Somebody might not eat!’”
She also discusses that although they are wealthy, she wants to keep a scarcity mindset. “I think I just have more responsibilities for my money,” Union continued. “So, I get nervous: “Oh God, that movie didn’t open, what does that mean? Am I going to have enough to hold everybody up?”‘
“I’m trying to find peace in the journey; not using my anxiety and scarcity mindset to be my engine, which is hard.”
The conversation around splitting bills in half with your partner is a discourse that social media continues to have. Union’s take on the matter may possibly help push the conversation along further.
