Television icons Gayle King and Hoda Kotb shared a laugh on the final episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna. During the heartfelt farewell, King surprised Kotb with a playful gift, highlighting their uncanny resemblance and the frequent mix-ups they experience.

“Everywhere I go, people stop me and say, ‘Hoda, good luck on your next chapter,’” King, 70, joked. She recounted a recent encounter where someone assumed she was Kotb as she entered 30 Rockefeller Plaza. To commemorate the moment, King gifted Kotb a shirt featuring their photos: hers labeled “Not Hoda” and Kotb’s labeled “Hoda.”

A Warm Farewell for Hoda Kotb

The two media personalities reflected on their experiences being mistaken for one another, sharing lighthearted anecdotes. “It happens to me every time I’m in the airport,” Kotb, 60, said. She added that people often mention her “bestie,” assuming it’s Oprah Winfrey, referencing King’s well-known friendship with the legendary talk show host.

For King, the comparisons are a compliment. “It is such a compliment to me, Hoda, honestly, to be confused with you,” she said. King also expressed admiration for Kotb’s decision to leave the show on her terms. “I think it’s so great, but we also know it’s not like you’re gonna be sitting at home doing bon bons.”

Kotb’s departure marks the end of a celebrated era for the 10 a.m. hour of Today. Co-host Jenna Bush Hager expressed heartfelt gratitude, calling Kotb “the best partner” and a constant source of positivity. “Every joke I say is funny because of Hoda. She tees me up,” Hager shared. “She’s so positive, so joyful, and she sets the tone for kindness and giving.”

As Kotb steps into her next chapter, Hager hopes to honor her legacy with Today with Jenna & Friends. “What big shoes to fill,” she said, “because her optimism is just beautiful.”
