Gene Hackman passed away at 95, along with his wife Betsy Arakawa, 63, and their dog.
According to reports, the two-time Oscar winner and his wife were found dead in their Santa Fe home on Wednesday during a welfare check. The investigation is ongoing, however, authorities do not suspect any foul play.
The couple, who had been married since 1991, were found around 1:45 pm on Wednesday afternoon. Adan Mendoza, the Santa Fe sheriff, said that “they are in the middle of a preliminary death investigation” and that the dog’s death could be key evidence into what happened.
Gene Hackman started acting in the early 1960s. In 1967, he was nominated for an Oscar for his role as Buck Barrow in Bonnie and Clyde. He would get another nomination for his performance as Gene Garrison in I Never Sang for My Father, released in 1970.
He won his first Oscar for his role in The French Connection, playing Detective Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle, a fictional character based on a real NYC detective.
This a developing story, and we will keep you posted with updates. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and loved ones during this time.
