Greg Mathis Jr., the son of Judge Greg Mathis, has tied the knot with his partner Elliott Cooper.

As PEOPLE reports, Greg Jr., 35, and Elliot, 40, formed their union on Oct. 21 during a five-day destination wedding at the Waldorf Astoria in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. They were joined by just 15 guests for the intimate, family-only nuptials.

“When we first started dating, the first trip I took Greg on was to Cabo,” Cooper told the publication. “It was a surprise birthday trip where I had family do a personal video for him.”

He added, “We love the beach … and the ambience has such a natural beauty,” he explains.

Greg Jr. and Elliot, who came out and shared their relationship with the world on the E! reality series in 2022, explained to PEOPLE that family is the core of their connection.

“Family is one thing with Greg and I that really solidified our relationship in the beginning,” Cooper explains. “Family is super important to me and us because we know that they love us and we love them without any hanging things. It’s not transactional, it’s just pure.”

“We selected the actual resort because on our last family vacation, we went there for Christmas and we had dinner at El Farallon, the restaurant at the hotel, and we were like, ‘This is where we want to get married,’ ” Greg Jr. said.

The couple’s intimate ceremony was officiated by Greg and Cooper’s fathers.

“Because my dad is a judge — a famous one too — he’s officiated everyone else’s wedding,” Greg Jr. explained. “And so I have always seen him in all these weddings across the country and I’ve just always had his vision in my mind of when I get married. [I thought], ‘I hope that the person I marry is going to be okay with this because I want my dad to officiate my wedding.’ And Elliot’s dad [Sergeant Calvin Cooper] is actually in law enforcement too, which is funny. It’s a note about us that we always laugh about.”

Following the wedding, Greg called the intimate event, “a dream come true.”

Both grooms wore custom, high-waisted suits from Sperdon Clothing — navy blue for Greg in a nod to his alma mater, The University of Michigan, and purple for Cooper in honor of his mother who died from lupus when he was in college.

“We both wanted a look that was classic, but also with some flair and our own personal style and touch,” Greg notes of their wedding attire.
