Halle Berry recently revisited the disappointing performance of “Catwoman” two decades after its release. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Berry expressed her frustration over being the sole target of the movie’s backlash. “I felt like it was Halle Berry’s failure, but I didn’t make it alone,” she said. Despite this, Berry’s resilience helped her navigate the negative feedback. “I didn’t love [the backlash],” she admitted, “but it wasn’t going to stop my world or derail me from doing what I love to do.”

A Challenging Role for Halle Berry

Berry took on the role of Catwoman with enthusiasm, even though she had reservations about the film’s storyline. “I always thought the idea of Catwoman saving women from a face cream felt a bit soft,” Berry shared. Despite her doubts, she committed to the project, embodying the character both psychologically and physically. “I worked my ass off to embody a cat in so many ways,” she added. The production process was enjoyable for her, and she noted, “It was a great shoot. I had the time of my life.”

Berry received a Razzie for her performance in “Catwoman” but famously accepted it with humor and grace. Reflecting on the experience, she stated, “It didn’t derail me because I’ve fought as a Black woman my whole life.” The film’s director, Pitof, believed “Catwoman” was ahead of its time, citing that audiences were not ready for a Black female superhero. He added, “Now, after some key movements, we have more diversity and inclusiveness.”

Berry acknowledged the negative opinions but emphasized her ability to persevere. “I know I can carry it. I still have a career 20 years later,” she said. Despite the film’s failure, Berry’s career continued to thrive, demonstrating her resilience and determination. “People have opinions, and sometimes they’re louder than others. You just have to keep moving,” she concluded.
