The R&B group Jagged Edge is paying homage to one of the greatest male R&B soul singers, the late Luther Vandross.
On Oct 31, the quartet released their cover to Vandross’ “So Amazing.” The track features a similar composition to the original with a modern R&B feel. It’s not clear if the cover will be a part of any future projects. The group’s last body of work was their 10th studio album, A Jagged Love Story.
“So Amazing,” written and produced by Vandross, was originally sung by Dionne Warwick in 1983. Three years later, Vandross himself covered the song for his fifth studio album Give Me the Reason.
Known for his velvety smooth voice, Vandross’ music was part of the cultural fabric for much of the ’80s and ’90s. “So Amazing” was only one of the chart topping hits that he produced over his almost thirty-year career. Through the 1980’s, he recorded a string of platinum albums, including “Forever, For Always, For Love,” “Busy Body” and “The Night I Fell In Love.” He scored his first Grammy Award in 1989 with “Here And Now.” His last studio album, 2003’s “Dance With My Father,” received 4 Grammy Awards
As VIBE exclusively reported, Jagged Edge told the outlet “Luther Vandross played a whole lot in our households, so the day he came to BET’s 106 and Park and told the world how much he thought of us-it was an out-of-body experience! We thought we’d honor him by putting our spin on ‘So Amazing,’ bringing his influence full circle. It’s our way of saying thank you to a legend who meant so much to us and to R&B.”
