JAY-Z’s social justice initiative, Team ROC, is set to debut its first true crime podcast, Corruption Uncovered, on December 6. The series will delve into systemic failures in the U.S. justice system, focusing initially on allegations against the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department (KCKPD) and former detective Roger Golubski. Hosted by journalist Josie Duffy Rice, the podcast promises gripping storytelling and investigative depth.
Team ROC Aiming for Justice Through Storytelling
“There is a need for powerful and comprehensive storytelling in the criminal justice sector so that the voices of those who have been silenced are heard,” said Team ROC Managing Director Dania Diaz. She emphasized that Corruption Uncovered aims to expose misconduct and push for accountability within systems designed to protect communities.
The first season highlights decades of alleged abuse and corruption tied to Golubski, who faced federal charges for allegedly extorting and sexually assaulting Black women and teenagers. Tragically, Golubski was found dead in an apparent suicide on December 1, just before his trial was set to begin. His death leaves lingering questions about justice and accountability.
One chilling story in the series recounts a survivor’s interaction with Golubski. “I said, ‘I’m gonna call the police.’ He said, ‘I am the police,’” the survivor recalls in the trailer, underscoring the deep mistrust between law enforcement and the community.
A Broader Push for Transparency
Team ROC’s advocacy in Kansas City extends beyond the podcast. Last year, the organization filed a lawsuit to access police misconduct records, partnering with the Midwest Innocence Project to demand transparency. They argue these records could reveal decades of unchecked abuse within the KCKPD.
Through Corruption Uncovered, Team ROC hopes to amplify the voices of survivors and expose systemic failures. “Our hope is for Corruption Uncovered to serve as an investigative platform that will expose misconduct, demand accountability, and drive change,” Diaz said.
Listeners can find the series on all major streaming platforms.
