The details about former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral have been revealed.

According to reports, the funeral will be held on Jan. 9 at Washington National Cathedral. He will also lie in the Rotunda at the U.S. Capitol, the Carter Center stated. An invitation was extended to the former president’s family by Congress.

Jimmy Carter was the 39th president of the United States, and we reported that he passed away at 100 years old surrounded by family at his home in Plains, Georgia. Before his passing, Carter was named the longest-lived former chief executive in U.S. History.

President Joe Biden has declared Jan. 9 as a National Day of Mourning for the former Democratic President. He has ordered all federal agencies to be closed on Jan. 9 as a sign of respect for the late President Jimmy Carter.

President Biden and Carter’s relationship spanned over a few decades and back in March of 2023, Biden revealed that Carter asked him to deliver his eulogy. After news broke about Carter’s passing, Biden spoke about how Jimmy Carter and his family were there for him when his son, Beau, passed away from cancer.

“I think that what Jimmy Carter is an example of is just simple decency, simple decency,” Biden said. “And I think that’s what the rest of the world looks to America for.”

After the Jan. 9 services, Carter is expected to be buried in Georgia next to his wife, Rosalynn Carter, who passed away last year at 96 years old.

We will continue to keep his loved one in our thoughts and prayers.
