Joel Embiid is opening up about having Bell’s Palsy after a fan noticed that he couldn’t close his eye.
During one of his games, fans noticed that he was having difficulty blinking and closing his left eye when the cameras zoomed in on his face. Fans were concerned and went on social media to see what was happening with the Philadelphia 76ers star.
After the game, Embiid addressed being diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy which is a condition that causes weakness in the muscles in a person’s face which can include having difficulty in blinking. “I don’t know exactly what happened, but obviously, I guess that’s a normal thing,” he said while wearing sunglasses. He went on to say that he started to have migraines that he believed were nothing until they got worse. “I ended uo having to tell somebody.”
He continued, “My body, I was just not feeling it and obviously lately, if you Google the symptoms, you know what it is. It’s pretty annoying. The left side of my face, my mouth, and my eye, it’s been tough. It’s unfortunate; that’s the way I look at it, but that’s not an excuse. You’ve got to keep pushing.”
Over the last few years, Embiid had fractures in both of his eyes but it hasn’t contributed to having Bell’s Palsy. Although he is going through this, Joel Embiid is not going to let it stop him from taking his team to the championship.
“I’m not a quitter. You’ve got to keep fighting through anything.”
