The world has suffered another loss in the legendary actor John Amos

It has been reported that Amos passed away at age 84 on August 21 in Los Angeles from natural causes. His son, Kelly Christopher Amos said in a statement, “It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned.”

The statement continued, “He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor. My father loved working as an actor throughout his entire life… most recently in ‘Suits LA’ playing himself and our documentary about his life journey as an actor, ‘America’s Dad.’ He was my dad, my best friend, and my hero. Thank you for your prayers and support at this time.”

John Amos was best known for his role as adult Kunta Kinte in the ABC miniseries, “Roots,” which he received an Emmy nomination for in 1977. He also had roles on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” but was best known for his role as James Evan Sr. in the hit show, “Good Times.”

The show was created by Norman Lear and it went on to make history by becoming the first TV show to have a two-parent African American household. However, after season 3, Amos was fired and in season 4, his character was killed off.

Throughout his career, John Amos has appeared in TV shows and movies such as “Coming to America,” “Coming 2 America,” “The West Wing,” “Two and a Half Men,” and more. We will keep the family of John Amos in our thoughts and prayers.
